PROMOTIONAL RECORDS
DECCA

PROMOTIONAL RECORDS WERE DISTRIBUTED FOR FREE IN ORDER TO PROMOTE A RECORDING THAT WOULD BE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. "PROMO" RECORDS WERE SENT DIRECTLY TO BROADCASTERS, SUCH AS RADIO STATION DISC JOCKEYS, AND AT TIMES, MUSIC JOURNALISTS IN ADVANCE OF THE RELEASE OF COMMERCIAL "STOCK COPY" ISSUES, IN THE HOPE THAT AIRPLAY, REVIEWS, AND OTHER FORMS OF EXPOSURE WILL RESULT AND STIMULATE THE PUBLIC'S INTEREST IN THE COMMERCIAL RELEASE.

BECAUSE PROMOTIONAL RECORDS WERE PRODUCED IN SMALLER QUANTITY THAN RELEASES THAT WERE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THEY ARE CONSIDERED EXTREMELY VALUABLE, FOR THEY WERE NEVER RELEASED IN RECORD STORES.

(ACTUAL SCANS)

HERE IS THE ULTRA-RARE APRIL 1962 PROMOTIONAL ISSUE OF THE BEATLES FIRST EVER U.S. RECORD.

THIS IS INDEED A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THIS HISTORIC "PINK LABEL" 45 SINGLE OF THE VERY FIRST RECORD THE BEATLES APPEARED ON IN THE UNITED STATES FROM APRIL 1962.

THIS WAS A MILD HIT IN GERMANY AND ENGLAND IN LATE 1961 / EARLY 1962, WHEN POLYDOR RECORDS ENLISTED THEIR U.S. AFFILIATE DECCA RECORDS, TO GIVE THIS RECORD A CHANCE IN THE AMERICA. IT WENT NOWHERE - AND THE RESULT IS ONE OF THE RAREST BEATLES 45S TO ACQUIRE.

NOT CONVINCED THE NAME 'BEATLES' WAS MARKETABLE, DECCA COMPLIED WITH POLYDOR'S SUGGESTION TO CHANGE THEIR NAME TO 'THE BEAT BROTHERS' ON THE LABEL. PRIMARILY A BACKING BAND TO TONY SHERIDAN, THIS RECORD TOTALLY BOMBED ON THE U.S. MARKET AND GAVE NO INDICATION OF THINGS TO COME FOR THE BEATLES.

THE CONDITION OF THIS HISTORIC PROMOTIONAL RECORD IS A SHIMMERING NEAR MINT MINUS, WITH A HIGH GLOSS SHEEN EVIDENT THROUGHOUT. NO SCRATCHES AT ALL, YET SOME MINIMAL LIGHT "HAIRLINE" SUPERFICIAL PULLS PREVENT IT FROM A NEAR MINT STATUS. USUALLY FOUND WITH RADIO STATION DISC JOCKEY "X'S" ON THE B-SIDE, THIS EXAMPLE IS WITHOUT THE "X'S". THE LABELS ARE EQUALLY GORGEOUS AND GRADE A VIBRANT NEAR MINT.

A TRULY COMPLETE PACKAGE - WHICH INCLUDES THE ACCOMPANYING  DECCA 45 PRINTED GENERIC SLEEVE, AND A NEAR MINT (UNUSED) ORIGINAL VINTAGE EARLY TO MID 1960'S 'DECCA RECORDS' IN STORE 7" RECORD PURCHASE BAG.
