PROMOTIONAL RECORDS
TOLLIE

PROMOTIONAL RECORDS WERE DISTRIBUTED FOR FREE IN ORDER TO PROMOTE A RECORDING THAT WOULD BE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. "PROMO" RECORDS WERE SENT DIRECTLY TO BROADCASTERS, SUCH AS RADIO STATION DISC JOCKEYS, AND AT TIMES, MUSIC JOURNALISTS IN ADVANCE OF THE RELEASE OF COMMERCIAL "STOCK COPY" ISSUES, IN THE HOPE THAT AIRPLAY, REVIEWS, AND OTHER FORMS OF EXPOSURE WILL RESULT AND STIMULATE THE PUBLIC'S INTEREST IN THE COMMERCIAL RELEASE.

BECAUSE PROMOTIONAL RECORDS WERE PRODUCED IN SMALLER QUANTITY THAN RELEASES THAT WERE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THEY ARE CONSIDERED EXTREMELY VALUABLE, FOR THEY WERE NEVER RELEASED IN RECORD STORES.

LOVE ME DO B/W P.S. I LOVE YOU
TOLLIE (T-9008)
RELEASED: APRIL 27, 1964

(ACTUAL SCANS)

DISC JOCKEY ADVANCE COPY, "PROMOTIONAL COPY" & "NOT FOR SALE" (TOL 9008.DJ1, SPIZER)

"LOVE ME DO" HAS THE DISTINCTION OF NOT ONLY BEING BOTH THE FIRST BEATLES PARLOPHONE UK SINGLE AND THE LAST REGULAR BEATLES SINGLE ISSUED BY VEE-JAY, BUT THE ONLY TOLLIE SINGLE TO RELEASE A PROMOTIONAL COPY.

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO CONFIRMED PROMOTIONAL COPIES OF THE FIRST BEATLES SINGLE ON TOLLIE "TWIST AND SHOUT", THERE ARE TWO DISTINCT PROMOTIONAL COPY LABEL VARIATIONS FOR THIS RELEASE. THIS FIRST ONE UTILIZES THE THIN BLOCK LETTERS "TOLLIE" LOGO IN BLACK PRINT ON A WHITE LABEL. THE TRAIL OFF AREA "MR" MARKING INDICATES THAT THIS FIRST LABEL VARIATION OF THIS RECORD WAS PRESSED BY MONARCH RECORDS.

VINYL IS STUNNING NEAR MINT AND DISPLAYS SO VERY LIMITED PLAY TIME. THE GROOVES RETAIN THEIR DEEP, GLORIOUS SHEEN. LABELS ARE EQUALLY AS CLEAN AND SHINY WHITE WITH NO WRITING AND NO HANDWRITTEN "X" THAT DESIGNATED THE AIR-PLAY SONG.

CONDITION: NM
ITEM#: PR888
PRICE: $2,250
