JIM STECK, A RADIO NEWSMAN WITH KRLA IN LOS ANGELES, AND DAVE HULL, A POPULAR DISC JOCKEY WITH THE SAME STATION, EACH CONDUCTED INTERVIEWS WITH THE BEATLES DURING THEIR 1964 AMERICAN TOUR. AFTER PORTIONS OF THESE INTERVIEWS WERE AIRED ON STATION KRLA, VEE-JAY APPROACHED THE PAIR AND REACHED AN AGREEMENT TO RELEASE THE INTERVIEWS ON AN ALBUM. The Beatles initially objected to the release but backed down after Steck and Hull insisted that they owned the interviews with no restrictions on their use.

The album was eventually commercially released in mono ON November 5, 1964 as “Hear The Beatles Tell All” (VJLP 202 PRO). IN ORDER TO FLESH OUT A MORE COHESIVE ALBUM, VEE-JAY EMPLOYED THE SERVICES OF LOU ADLER, WHO EDITED THE INTERVIEWS AND APPLIED CROWD NOISES, SCREAMS AND PERCUSSION BY HAL BLAINE, THE TOP FLIGHT, LEGENDARY LOS ANGELES SESSION DRUMMER.

VEE-JAY PREPARED A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF PROMOTIONAL COPIES OF THE RECORD (VJ202.DJ1, SPIZER). THESE RECORDS, WHICH WERE MANUFACTURED BY MONARCH RECORDS IN LOS ANGELES, HAS THE "MR" logo machine stamped in trail offs. The trail off area to the jim steck / john lennon side has the hand etched matrix number 64-6608 and job number 7109. the trail off area to the dave hull / beatles side has the hand etched matrix number 64-6609 and job number 7109X. THESE MARKINGS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE COMMERCIALLY ISSUED RECORD. THE ALL WHITE LABELS HAVE THE VEE-JAY LARGE BRACKETS LOGO WITH BLUE PRINT.  THE WORDS "PROMOTIONAL" AND "NOT FOR SALE" APPEAR BELOW THE BRACKETS LOGO, ALONG WITH THE NUMBER "PRO 202" (eventually the "PRO" PREFIX CODE in the catalog number was OMITTED ON COMMERCIAL ISSUES OF THE RECORD).

IN ITS RUSH TO MARKET THE RECORD, VEE-JAY MISTAKENLY REVERSED THE ROLES OF DAVE HULL AND JIM STECK. THE LABELS ON THE PROMOTIONAL RECORD INCORRECTLY STATE  "JIM STECK INTERVIEWS JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE, RINGO" ON ONE SIDE AND "DAVE HULL INTERVIEWS JOHN LENNON" ON THE OTHER. UPON REALIZING THE ERROR, VEE-JAY REQUESTED THAT ALL COPIES OF THE RECORDS BE RETURNED. MANY WERE RETURNED, BUT AS WOULD BE EXPECTED, A FEW PEOPLE KEPT HIS OR HER COPY OF THE RECORD. PRESENTLY, THERE ARE ONLY TEN CONFIRMED COPIES OF THIS MEGA-RARE PROMOTIONAL RECORD THAT HAVE SURFACED. THE ONLY NEAR MINT COPY OF THE RECORD CAME FROM DAVE HULL'S PERSONAL COLLECTION. WHEN THE RECORD WAS PRESSED FOR COMMERCIAL RELEASE, VEE-JAY CORRECTED THE NAMES OF THE INTERVIEWERS ON THE LABELS.

Since vee-jay never issued white label promoTIONAL LP ALBUMS for any versions of "Introducing The Beatles" or "The Beatles And Frank Ifield" ALBUMS, "HEAR THE BEATLES TELL ALL" remains the sole Vee-Jay Records white label promoTIONAL Beatles LP ALBUM - MAKING IT by far one of the rarest U.S. Beatles ALBUMS.

this MOST STUNNING EXAMPLE BEING OFFERED HERE BY FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES is certainly one of the better conditionED copies THAT DO EXIST. ONE FACTOR IS the "name switch" label error has not been corrected in ink BY HAND, as some OF THE other promoTIONAL copies out there DO HAVE THE HANDWRITTEN CORRECTIONS. both labels remain clean, white and bright. the vinyl is graded a glimmering, SHIMMERING and strong NEAR MINT MINUS, displaying some SPORADIC Hairline SLEEVE Marks only and plays wonderfully throughout.

all promotional discs were issued with the stock commercial Cover without any promotional markings. THE FRONT COVER states “LIVE IN PERSON INTERVIEWS RECORDED DURING THEIR LATEST-AMERICAN TOUR" in RED across the top of the cover. DIRECTLY  below this is the title of the LP appearing in white block letters on an angled black rectangular banner. Phrases and questions relating to the interviews appear randomly throughout the lower PORTION Of the cover. The back cover is reminiscent of the "AD BACK" cover on the FIRST issue of "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES", featuring miniature IMAGES of THE LABEL'S BEATLES album covers and singles picture sleeves. rather than promoting OTHER FINE ALBUMS OF SIGNIFICANT INTEREST, the cover plugs FOUR Beatles Vee-Jay AND TOLLIE singles.
Oddly ENOUGH, their most popular AND SUCCESSFUL album, "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" is not pictured. thE CONDITION OF THIS ACCOMPANYING cover is a VERY strong and crisp vg+++, with no splits or ringwear and is solid AND BRIGHT throughout.

THE CORRECT PERIOD VEE-JAY OCTOBER 1964  "THE REALLY GREAT TALENT IS ON VJ" ADVERTISEMENT RED INNER DUST SLEEVE ACCOMPANIES THIS SET. THIS SLEEVE WAS DISTRIBUTED WITH SOME COPIES OF "HEAR THE BEATLES TELL ALL", AND NO OTHER VEE-JAY BEATLES ALBUM.

as an additional TREMENDOUS bonus, also included is a set of three original Vee-Jay Records invoices and carbon copies of checks (dated September and October 1964) that were made out to Dayton Burr Howe for engineering services on this album (he was un-credited). mr. Howe later became known as "Bones" Howe and was a very successful recording engineer, producer, music supervisor and musician who worked with Elvis Presley, the Mama's and the Papa's, the Association, the Fifth Dimension, Johnny Rivers, Frank Sinatra, Jan and Dean, the everly brothers, jerry lee lewis, the turtles, tom waits and others. ALSO FOUND AMONG THE DOCUMENTS IS A KRLA RADIO DISC JOCKEY DAVE HULL FAN CLUB NEWSLETTER BROCHURE, DATED JULY 14, 1966.

these documents are A PHENOMENAL historical addition to an extremely rare Beatles album, making it arguably the best copy IN EXISTENCE.
