YESTERDAY AND TODAY CAPITOL ST-2553 STEREO, RELEASED: 6/15/66 BUTCHER COVER FIRST STATE FACTORY #2 COVER - SCRANTON, PA. CONDITION: COVER NM / RECORD M- (UNPLAYED) ITEM#: BC399 PRICE: ------- |

DESCRIPTION BUTCHER COVERS DO NOT FOLLOW THE GENERAL RULE THAT A BEATLES MONO ALBUM ON CAPITOL IS MORE VALUABLE THAN ITS STEREO EQUIVALENT. THIS IS BECAUSE THE INITIAL 750,000 RUN OF THIS ALBUM WAS PRODUCED AT A RATIO OF APPROXIMATELY 5:1 IN FAVOR OF MONO OVER STEREO. IN THE SUMMER OF 1966, MONO STILL DOMINATED STEREO IN THE TEEN MARKET. BASED UPON PRODUCTION FIGURES, A STEREO SECOND OR THIRD STATE BUTCHER SHOULD BE AT LEAST FIVE TIMES SCARCER THAN A MONO BUTCHER. FOR FIRST STATE BUTCHERS, THE DISPARITY BETWEEN STEREO AND MONO IS MUCH GREATER. NEARLY ALL ALBUMS THAT WERE USED FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES WERE MONO. OTHER SURVIVING JACKETS ORIGINATED FROM CAPITOL EMPLOYEES WHO PULLED BUTCHER COVERS FROM BOXES EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER SHIPMENT BACK TO THE FACTORIES DURING THE RECALL. WHILE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE EXACTLY HOW MANY STEREO FIRST STATE BUTCHERS SURVIVED, IT IS CLEAR THAT THEY ARE SIGNIFICANTLY RARER THAN THE MONO VERSION. FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES IS EXTREMELY PROUD TO OFFER THIS MOST MAGNIFICENT STEREO FIRST STATE BUTCHER COVER, WHICH REMAINS IN ITS ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINKWRAP. WITHOUT A DOUBT, IT IS ONE OF THE FINEST SURVIVING EXAMPLES KNOWN TO EXIST AND RIVALS SEALED EXAMPLES THAT HAVE AN ISSUE OR TWO. OUR IMAGES PRESENTED BELOW MERELY ATTEMPTS TO TRULY DEPICT THE BEAUTY OF ITS CONDITION. IN PERSON, THIS COVER IS A GEM. THE CONDITION OF THIS BUTCHER COVER IS AN EXEMPLARY BRILLIANT AND SHARP NEAR MINT, WITH NO BLEMISHES AT ALL. IT IS A WORLD CLASS HIGH END EXAMPLE WITH GRAPHICS THAT "POP" OFF THE SLICK WITH BOLD, DEEP COLORS AND RICH, VIBRANT CLARITY. ANY "RUBBING THAT IS SEEN IN THE IMAGES ARE SOLELY ON THE SHRINKWRAP, NOT ON THE COVER. ONLY MINOR ISSUE IS A 1" SHRINK SEPARATION AT THE VERY TOP RIGHT CORNER ALONG THE SHRINK SEAM. THIS IS THE EXTENT OF ANY ISSUE. THE SPINE IS PERFECTLY CENTERED, SOLID, FIRM AND LEGIBLE. THE COVER LAYS PERFECTLY FLAT. THE BACK COVER IS EQUALLY SUPERB, AND REMAINS A CLEAN "BRIGHT" WHITE. NO RINGWEAR, NO SPOTTING, WITH SIMPLY MERELY A "HINT" OF YELLOWING ALONG THE EDGE OF THE MOUTH OPENING WHERE THE SHRINKWRAP ENDS. THIS FIRST STATE STEREO SCRANTON #2 COVER IS ACCOMPANIED BY ITS MATCHING EAST COAST RECORD, GRADED IN SPARKLING MINT MINUS UNPLAYED CONDITION, ALONG WITH THE ORIGINAL CAPITOL '66 ORANGE INNER SLEEVE. AS AN ADDED ATTRACTION, A COPY OF THE CAPITOL RECORDS ORIGINAL "RECALL LETTER" THAT WENT OUT TO ALL DISTRIBUTORS & PROMOTERS ON JUNE 14, 1966 - IS ALSO INCLUDED.
