CAPITOL RECORDS
1968 "SUBSIDIARY" LP ALBUM RELEASES

IN 1968, AS PART OF A CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING OF CAPITOL AND EMI, CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF A NEW ENTITY KNOWN AS CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO IDENTIFY THE NEW ARRANGEMENT ON SUBSEQUENT CAPITOL RELEASES. THIS REQUIRED THE REPRINTING OF 45 SINGLES AND LP ALBUM LABELS TO REFLECT THE NEW OWNERSHIP.

ON THE ALBUM'S LABELS, THE PERIMETER PRINT ON THE COMPANY'S LABELS WAS MODIFIED TO REFLECT THE NEW OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE. CAPITOL ADDED "A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC." FOLLOWING "MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS INC".  THE "SUBSIDIARY" RAINBOW LABEL MADE ITS DEBUT IN THE FALL OF 1968, WHEN CAPITOL RECORDS BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC.

THE SUBSIDIARY RAINBOW LABEL WAS USED FOR LESS THAN YEAR, BEFORE BEING REPLACED IN THE SUMMER OF 1969 BY THE NEW SOLID LIME-GREEN COLORED LABEL. BEATLES ALBUMS WITH THE "SUBSIDIARY" RAINBOW LABELS ARE MUCH LESS COMMON THAN THE FIRST ISSUE LPS WITHOUT THE SUBSIDIARY LANGUAGE, AND THESE LIMITED RELEASES ARE QUICKLY GAINING FAVOR IN THE COLLECTORS' WORLD.

LP ALBUM COVERS & RECORDS ARE SOLD TOGETHER. GRADING LISTING IS FOR COVER/RECORD.

  MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR
CAPITOL SMAL-2835 STEREO
RELEASED: 1968
WEST COAST PRESSING, WITH COMPLETE BOOKLET INTACT.

RARER COVER WITH HAND WRITTEN FONT "NO YOU'RE NOT" AND "ASCAP" CREDIT REVISION. THIS IS DEFINITELY THE MOST DIFFICULT 1968 "SUBSIDIARY" LP ISSUE TO ACQUIRE. REASON IS THAT THE ORIGINAL LABELS WERE MADE IN ENOUGH NUMBERS, THAT THE "SUBSIDIARY" REISSUE LABELS WERE NOT MADE AT ALL IN THE SAME QUANTITY AS THE EARLIER TITLES WERE.

CONDITION: NM- / M (UNPLAYED)
ITEM#: LP179

  YESTERDAY AND TODAY
CAPITOL ST-2553 STEREO
RELEASED: SPRING 1971
JACKSONVILLE PRESSING, COVER #16

ULTRA-RARE VERY LIMITED RUN RED LABEL WITH PURPLE 'TARGET' CIRCLE LOGO

UNEQUIVOCALLY THE RAREST OF ALL BEATLES CAPITOL LP ALBUMS

COVER REMAINS IN ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINKWRAP

DURING MAY OF 1971, CAPITOL SWITCHED FROM A LIME GREEN TO A NEWLY DESIGNED "RED" BACKGROUND WITH THE PURPLE "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO LABEL. The first two Beatles albums Capitol received pressing orders for were "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER". Almost immediately, the pressing of these two albums abruptly ended when Apple Records announced that they were going to re-issue all Beatles albums on their APPLE label. THEREFORE, "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" AND "REVOLVER" ARE THE ONLY CONFIRMED AMERICAN-PRESSED BEATLES ALBUMS WITH THE RED BACKGROUND PURPLE "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO LABEL.

The actual pressing numbers for these two albums is still a mystery to this day. What IS known is that in May of 1971, Capitol Records unintentionally created an extreme rarity by halting the pressing of "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER" in mere double digit numbers.

HERE IS OUR FIRST "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" ALBUM - A MOST SUPERB AND BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" RED LABEL MEGA-RARITY. THE VINYL IS IN GLIMMERING NEAR MINT MINUS (BORDERS VERY SLIGHTLY ON VG+++), AND THE ORIGINAL 1971 ACCOMPANYING COVER IS AN ASTONISHING MINT "AS NEW" AND REMAINS IN THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINKWRAP.

ITEM#: LP477
CONDITION: M / NM- (VG+++)

WINCHESTER PRESSING

ULTRA-RARE VERY LIMITED RUN RED LABEL WITH PURPLE 'TARGET' CIRCLE LOGO
THE 2ND RAREST OF ALL BEATLES CAPITOL LP ALBUMS

COVER REMAINS IN ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINKWRAP

DURING MAY OF 1971, CAPITOL SWITCHED FROM A LIME GREEN TO A NEWLY DESIGNED "RED" BACKGROUND WITH THE PURPLE "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO LABEL. The first two Beatles albums Capitol received pressing orders for were "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER".  The actual pressing numbers for these two albums is still a mystery to this day. What IS known is that in May of 1971, Capitol Records unintentionally created an extreme rarity by halting the pressing of "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER" in mere double digit numbers.

WE HAD PREVIOUSLY SOLD OUR FIRST "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" IN DECEMBER 2018, THE FIFTH THAT HAS SURFACED - AND NOW, HERE IS ONLY OUR SECOND "REVOLVER" RED LABEL TARGET LOGO ALBUM - A MOST SUPERB AND BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THIS MEGA-RARITY, AND TO OUR KNOWLEDGE THE ELEVENTH THAT HAS SURFACED.
