CAPITOL RECORDS
1968 "SUBSIDIARY" LP ALBUM RELEASES

IN 1968, AS PART OF A CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING OF CAPITOL AND EMI, CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF A NEW ENTITY KNOWN AS CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO IDENTIFY THE NEW ARRANGEMENT ON SUBSEQUENT CAPITOL RELEASES. THIS REQUIRED THE REPRINTING OF 45 SINGLES AND LP ALBUM LABELS TO REFLECT THE NEW OWNERSHIP.

ON THE ALBUM'S LABELS, THE PERIMETER PRINT ON THE COMPANY'S LABELS WAS MODIFIED TO REFLECT THE NEW OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE. CAPITOL ADDED "A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC." FOLLOWING "MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS INC".  THE "SUBSIDIARY" RAINBOW LABEL MADE ITS DEBUT IN THE FALL OF 1968, WHEN CAPITOL RECORDS BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC.

THE SUBSIDIARY RAINBOW LABEL WAS USED FOR LESS THAN YEAR, BEFORE BEING REPLACED IN THE SUMMER OF 1969 BY THE NEW SOLID LIME-GREEN COLORED LABEL. BEATLES ALBUMS WITH THE "SUBSIDIARY" RAINBOW LABELS ARE MUCH LESS COMMON THAN THE FIRST ISSUE LPS WITHOUT THE SUBSIDIARY LANGUAGE, AND THESE LIMITED RELEASES ARE QUICKLY GAINING FAVOR IN THE COLLECTORS' WORLD.

LP ALBUM COVERS & RECORDS ARE SOLD TOGETHER. GRADING LISTING IS FOR COVER/RECORD.

RARER COVER WITH HAND WRITTEN FONT "NO YOU'RE NOT" AND "ASCAP" CREDIT REVISION. THIS IS DEFINITELY THE MOST DIFFICULT 1968 "SUBSIDIARY" LP ISSUE TO ACQUIRE. REASON IS THAT THE ORIGINAL LABELS WERE MADE IN ENOUGH NUMBERS, THAT THE "SUBSIDIARY" REISSUE LABELS WERE NOT MADE AT ALL IN THE SAME QUANTITY AS THE EARLIER TITLES WERE.

  REVOLVER
CAPITOL ST-2576 STEREO
RELEASED: 1971
WINCHESTER PRESSING

(ACTUAL IMAGES)

ULTRA-RARE RED LABEL WITH CIRCLE LOGO WITH "SUBSIDIARY".

IN THE SUMMER OF 1969, CAPITOL SWITCHED TO A LIME-GREEN LABEL FEATURING ITS NEW CIRCLE LOGO AT THE TOP. THE OUTER "C" IS PURPLE AND THE CIRCLE REPRESENTING THE RECORD IS BLACK. THIS LIME-BACKGROUND CIRCLE LOGO WAS USED FOR CAPITOL BEATLES ALBUMS UNTIL LATE SPRING, 1971.

DURING THE SPRING OF 1971, CAPITOL SWITCHED TO A RED-BACKGROUND CIRCLE LOGO LABEL. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, CAPITOL BEGAN PRESSING ALL OF ITS BEATLES RECORDS WITH APPLE LABELS.

HOWEVER, A VERY SMALL, LIMITED NUMBER OF BEATLES ALBUMS WERE PRESSED WITH THE RED LABELS BEFORE THE CONVERSION TO APPLE LABELS TOOK PLACE.

"YESTERDAY AND TODAY" AND "REVOLVER" ARE THE ONLY CONFIRMED AMERICAN-PRESSED BEATLES ALBUMS WITH THE RED-BACKGROUND CIRCLE LOGO LABEL !!

OFFERED HERE IS A MOST STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THE REVOLVER RED LABEL RARITY, IN UNPLAYED, "AS NEW" CONDITION, WITH ONLY ONLY 2 LIGHT "WHISPS" OF INNER SLEEVE PULLS EVIDENT ON SIDE 2.

THIS IS THE WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA PRESSING (CAP2576.SR35W, SPIZER) AS DOCUMENTED IN BRUCE SPIZER'S BOOK "THE BEATLES SWAN SONG", PAGE 227-229.

THE ORIGINAL 1971 ACCOMPANYING COVER IS A BRILLIANT NEAR MINT WITH ONLY A "HINT" OF MELLOWING ALONG THE MOUTH OPENING OF THE FRONT COVER. NO RINGWEAR, AND BACK COVER IS GORGEOUS.
