DESCRIPTION (ACTUAL IMAGES) Encouraged by the sales of the group's second single, "Please Please Me", Parlophone issued its third Beatles single "From Me To You" b/w "Thank You Girl", on April 11, 1963, exactly three months after the release of the prior single. Record Retailer reviewed the disc in its April 11 issue, stating that it was even better than the first two singles. "From Me To You" was described as a catchy tune with a "good gimmicky vocal performance" and lasting appeal. The magazine concluded by saying that "Beatle hysteria has never been higher - and this is likely Number One." Record Retailer's prediction quickly came true. "From Me To You" entered the magazine's Top 50 chart on April 18 at number 23, one spot behind "Please Please Me". The a following week it moved up to number three. On May 2 "From Me To You" reached the number one spot, knocking out Gerry and the Pacemakers' recording of "How Do You Do It", a song the Beatles reluctantly recorded at their first proper EMI recording session. "From Me To You" spent 21 weeks on the charts, including seven straight weeks at number one, ten in the top five and 16 in the top 20. The single performed similarly on the Melody Maker charts, making its debut at number 19 on May 20 before moving up to three and then to one on May 4. The disc charted for 20 weeks, including six straight at number one, ten in the top five and 16 in the top 20. NME was ahead of the curve, with "From Me To You" making its debut at number six on April 19 and moving the following week to number one, where it remained for five straight weeks. The single also reached the top of the BBC chart. Disc Weekly charted "From Me To You" at number one and on May 4, 1963, awarded the single a silver disc, indicating sales of 250,000.
