DESCRIPTION
(ACTUAL IMAGES)THE BEATLES THIRD 1969 U.K. SINGLE FEATURED TWO TRACKS PULLED
FROM THE GROUP'S FINAL STUDIO ALBUM "ABBEY ROAD", GEORGE'S "SOMETHING" AND JOHN'S "COME TOGETHER".
ALTHOUGH INITIALLY INTENDED ONLY FOR RELEASE IN NORTH AMERICA, THE DISC WAS
ISSUED IN GREAT BRITAIN ON OCTOBER 31, FIVE WEEKS AFTER THE ALBUM. THIS MARKED
THE FIRST TIME A BEATLES U.K. SINGLE CONSISTED OF SONGS PREVIOUSLY RELEASED ON
AN ALBUM, ALTHOUGH "A HARD DAY'S NIGHT" B/W "THINGS WE SAID TODAY" WAS RELEASED
SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE "A HARD DAY'S NIGHT" LP AND "YELLOW SUBMARINE" B/W
"ELEANOR RIGBY" 45 SINGLE WAS ISSUED AT THE SAME TIME AS "REVOLVER".
THE SINGLE SOLD IN EXCESS OF 200,000 COPIES, BUT DID NOT REACH THE 250,000 MARK
REQUIRED FOR A SILVER DISC AWARD. THE RECORD'S RELATIVELY POOR PERFORMANCE HAD
NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUALITY OF THE SONGS, BUT RATHER WAS DUE TO THE
SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF BEATLES FANS WHO HAD NO REASON TO BUY THE DISC BECAUSE
THEY HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE "ABBEY ROAD" ALBUM.
EMI PREPARED A GREEN "A" LABEL DEMONSTRATION DISC FOR THE SINGLE, IN A VERY LIMITED RUN, DUE TO THE FACT AND FORTH SIGHT THAT THESE TWO
TRACKS ON THE SINGLE WERE ALREADY ON THE "ABBEY ROAD" ALBUM, ISSUED FIVE WEEKS
PRIOR. ALTHOUGH RADIO PROGRAMMERS TREATED THE RECORD AS A TWO-SIDED HIT, THE
PROMO HAS A LARGE WHITE "A" ONLY ON THE "SOMETHING" SIDE, INDICATING THAT APPLE
INTENDED FOR GEORGE'S SONG TO RECEIVE SOLO TOP BILLING.
this demonstration disc, THE
FINAL BEATLES PARLOPHONE DEMO DISC, HAS BECOME THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER BY COLLECTORS. THIS RECORD IS MUCH SCARCER
IN NUMBERS THAN
THE PRESTIGIOUS "LOVE ME DO" WHITE LABEL DEMO 45.
YET, THE MOST VITAL FACTOR IS THAT OF ALL FIVE SINGLES ISSUED ON THE APPLE
LABEL IN GREAT BRITAIN "HEY JUDE" B/W "REVOLUTION", "GET BACK" B/W "DON'T
LET ME DOWN", "THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO" B/W "OLD BROWN SHOE", "SOMETHING"
B/W "COME TOGETHER" AND "LET IT BE" B/W "YOU KNOW MY NAME (LOOK UP THE NUMBER)",
THE "SOMETHING" SINGLE WAS THE ONLY RECORD ISSUED AS A PARLOPHONE "A" LABEL DEMO
45.
FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES IS VERY PROUD TO OFFER FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION THE EXTREMELY
RARE "SOMETHING" GREEN "A" LABEL DEMONSTRATION RECORD, WHICH HAS THE GREEN
PARLOPHONE LABELS WITH GRAMOPHONE PERIMETER PRINT AT THE TOP AND "NOT FOR SALE"
PRINTED AT THE TWO O'CLOCK POSITION. IT ALSO HAS THE RELEASE DATE OF THE SINGLE
"31.10.69", PRINTED ABOVE THE RECORD NUMBER.
THE TRAIL OFF STAMPINGS ARE: A-SIDE: "7YCE 21369 1U" AND "GL" AND "KT" AND "3".
B-SIDE: "7YCE 21370 1U" AND "RD" AND "KT" AND "4".
THE RECORD IS IN GLORIOUS NEAR MINT UNPLAYED CONDITION DISPLAYING A HIGH GLOSS
SHEEN AND DEEP BEAUTIFUL GROOVES. THE LABELS ARE A TRUE NEAR MINT.
THE RECORD IS ACCOMPANIED BY ITS ORIGINAL 1969, AND FINAL PARLOPHONE COMPANY
45RPM SLEEVE, THAT HAS A GREEN BACKGROUND WITH A PAIR OF CONCENTRIC WHITE
CIRCLES. THE BACK FEATURES THE ADVERTISEMENTS OF SEVEN PARLOPHONE ALBUM COVERS
INCLUDING "SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND".
