DESCRIPTION (ACTUAL SCANS) IN 1968, AS PART OF A CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING OF CAPITOL AND EMI, CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF A NEW ENTITY KNOWN AS CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO IDENTIFY THE NEW ARRANGEMENT ON SUBSEQUENT CAPITOL RELEASES. THIS REQUIRED THE REPRINTING OF 45 SINGLES AND LP ALBUM LABELS TO REFLECT THE NEW OWNERSHIP. ON THE ALBUM'S LABELS, THE
PERIMETER PRINT ON THE COMPANY'S LABELS WAS MODIFIED TO REFLECT THE NEW
OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE. CAPITOL ADDED "A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC."
FOLLOWING "MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS INC". THE "SUBSIDIARY" RAINBOW LABEL
MADE ITS DEBUT IN THE FALL OF 1968, WHEN CAPITOL RECORDS BECAME A WHOLLY OWNED
SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES, INC. IN THE SUMMER OF 1969, CAPITOL SWITCHED TO A LIME-GREEN LABEL FEATURING ITS NEW "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO AT THE TOP. THE OUTER "C" IS PURPLE AND THE CIRCLE REPRESENTING THE RECORD IS BLACK. THIS LIME-BACKGROUND CIRCLE LOGO WAS USED FOR CAPITOL BEATLES ALBUMS UNTIL LATE SPRING 1971. DURING MAY OF 1971, CAPITOL THEN SWITCHED TO A NEWLY DESIGNED "RED" BACKGROUND WITH THE PURPLE "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO LABEL. The first two Beatles albums Capitol received pressing orders for were "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER". Almost immediately, the pressing of these two albums abruptly ended when Apple Records announced that they were going to re-issue all Beatles albums on their APPLE label. THEREFORE, "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" AND "REVOLVER" ARE THE ONLY CONFIRMED AMERICAN-PRESSED BEATLES ALBUMS WITH THE RED BACKGROUND PURPLE "TARGET" CIRCLE LOGO LABEL. The actual pressing numbers for these two albums is still a mystery to this day. What IS known is that in May of 1971, Capitol Records unintentionally created an extreme rarity by halting the pressing of "Yesterday And Today" AND "REVOLVER" in mere double digit numbers. TO DATE, AND TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, APPROXIMATELY ONLY TEN "REVOLVER" ALBUMS - AND ONLY AN ASTONISHING fOUR "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" ALBUMS HAVE SURFACED.
BEING OFFERED HERE IS OUR FIRST "YESTERDAY AND TODAY" ALBUM
- the fifth that has surfaced - A MOST SUPERB AND BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE
"YESTERDAY AND TODAY" RED LABEL MEGA-RARITY.
THIS IS THE JACKSONVILLE, INDIANA PRESSING
INDICATED BY THE STAMPED "0" IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVE ON SIDE 1 (CAP2553.SR35J, SPIZER)
AS DOCUMENTED IN BRUCE SPIZER'S BOOK "THE BEATLES SWAN SONG", PAGE 227-228..
THE VINYL IS IN GLIMMERING NEAR MINT MINUS (BORDERS VERY SLIGHTLY ON VG+++),
WITH DEEP, SHIMMERING GROOVES, AND NO SCRATCHES. JUST A FEW SPORADIC SUPERFICIAL
LINES ON SIDE 2, AND A COUPLE OF MARKS IN THE RUN-OUT. THE LABELS ARE A GLORIOUS
NEAR MINT.
DUE TO THE EXTREMELY LOW DOUBLE-DIGIT NUMBERS ISSUED FOR THESE TWO LIMITED
PRESSING "RED LABEL" ALBUMS, PARTICULARLY THE RARER "YESTERDAY AND TODAY",
IT CAN BE STATED THAT THEY ARE RARER THAN THE VEE-JAY "PORTRAIT" COVER OR "AD
BACK" COVERS - AND ARE CONTINUOUSLY SOUGHT AFTER BY THE SERIOUS BEATLES RECORD
COLLECTOR.
