ULTRA-RARE "BLUE AIRPORT" PICTURE SLEEVE CONDITION: SLEEVE VG++ / RECORD NM |
||
DESCRIPTION THE SECOND GEORGE MARTIN SINGLE (UA-750) IS ONE OF THE RARER BEATLES SLEEVES AVAILABLE, FOR ITS LOW NUMBERS ARE DUE TO UNITED ARTIST'S VERY LIMITED PRESS RUN, AND VERY FEW OF THE 45'S WERE ISSUED IN THIS VERY ATTRACTIVE PICTURE SLEEVE - KNOWN AMONG COLLECTORS AS THE "BLUE AIRPORT SLEEVE". THIS SLEEVE IS ONE OF THE NICEST BEATLES PICTURE SLEEVES FROM THE GOLDEN ERA OF THE SIXTIES - AND THE MOST DEMANDED. THEY SURFACE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. THE FRONT OF THE SLEEVE FEATURES A BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE OF THE GROUP WITH A VIBRANT BLUE BACKGROUND RECTANGULAR BOX AT THE TOP. THE TEXT, GRAPHICS AND LAYOUT OF THE STRIKING BLUE UPPER PORTION OF THE SLEEVE IS SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE RED UPPER SLEEVE OF THE FIRST UNITED ARTISTS BEATLES SINGLE (UA745). THE BACK OF THE UA750 SLEEVE HAS A BLACK AND WHITE ROBERT FREEMAN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE GROUP STANDING WITH GEORGE MARTIN THAT PREVIOUSLY APPEARED ON THE COVER OF MARTIN'S FIRST UA ALBUM, "OFF THE BEATLES TRACK". DUE TO THE COLORS UTILIZED OF THE UA750 SLEEVE, THESE ARE NOTORIOUS FOR WEAR, AND USUALLY FOUND IN HORRENDOUS CONDITION. THIS ONE BEING OFFERED IS A MOST RESPECTABLE AND SOLID EXAMPLE. GRADED AS A VG++. IT DISPLAYS SOME HANDLING AND LIGHT WEAR ON BOTH SIDES. AND MINIMAL RECORD IMPRESSION. IT RETAINS STRAIGHT EDGES, LAYS NICE AND FLAT WITH NO SPLITS, NO WRITING, NO HOLES. THE ACCOMPANYING
WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL "NOT FOR SALE" DISC, PRESSED BY COLUMBIA
RECORDS AT ITS TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA FACTORY, IS IN BEAUTIFUL NEAR MINT
CONDITION, WITH A DEEP GLIMMERING SHEEN TO THE GROOVES. THE LABELS ARE
EQUALLY FABULOUS WITH A BRIGHT WHITE SHEEN TO THEM, THE A-SIDE LABEL HAS A RADIO
STATION SMALL HANDWRITTEN "X" PENNED IN BLUE BALLPOINT ON IT, DESIGNATING THE PLAY SIDE.
