DESCRIPTION
(ACTUAL IMAGES)
CAPITOL RECORDS WAS INVOLVED IN A BEATLES TIE-IN WITH
THE POPULAR MOTEL CHAIN HOLIDAY INN, AND
PREPARED PROMOTIONAL FLYERS, (CAPPRO.HI.PS1, SPIZER)
PROMOTING HOLIDAY INN AND THE BEATLES.
APPARENTLY, THE FLYERS WERE FOLDED AT THE CENTER
AND DISTRIBUTED TO GUESTS OF THE MOTEL WITH A REGULAR
BEATLES 45 SINGLE PLACED INSIDE. THE FLYERS WERE STAPLED
TO HOLD THE RECORD IN PLACE.
THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 125 EXAMPLES OF THE 7" X 7" TRIMMED AND FOLDED RARE
FLYER/SLEEVE KNOWN TO EXIST. OF THOSE 125, ONLY A HANDFUL HAVE BEEN FOUND IN ITS
ORIGINAL 14½"
X 8½"
FACTORY RELEASED UNTRIMMED, UNFOLDED
STATE. THIS EXAMPLE IS ONE OF THEM - STORED AWAY FOR THE LAST 50+ YEARS. ONE CAN
SEE THE PRINTER'S TINY GUIDE LINES AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES WHERE THE
TRIMMING SHOULD OCCUR, AND THE SMALL GUIDE LINE ON THE LEFT EDGE CENTER WHERE
THE HORIZONTAL FOLD SHOULD BE EXECUTED.
THIS EXAMPLE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND
REMAINS IN NEAR MINT 'FACTORY FRESH', UNCIRCULATED CONDITION. THE PIECE PRESENTS
ITSELF AS IT JUST rolled off the LOS
ANGELES FACTORY production line YESTERDAY.
PREPARED BY CAPITOL IN JULY 1964 SHORTLY AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE "SOMETHING
NEW" ALBUM, THIS UNIQUE PROMOTIONAL ITEM BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF THE BEATLES
EARLY MUSIC AND SUMMER CAR TRIPS SPENT AT VARIOUS HOLIDAY INNS ACROSS AMERICA.
IT IS INDEED A RARE PIECE, AND IS HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE. THESE ARE SURFACING LESS
AND LESS THESE DAYS.
ACCOMPANIED BY A LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FROM PERRY COX,
BEATLES U.S. RECORDS EXPERT AND AUTHOR OF "THE BEATLES RECORD PRICE GUIDE"
SERIES OF BOOKS.
