DESCRIPTION (ACTUAL IMAGES) ONE OF THE THREE BEATLES-RELATED LAWSUITS INVOLVING VEE-JAY IN JANUARY OF 1964 INVOLVED THE COPYRIGHTS TO TWO OF THE SONGS FEATURED ON THE INITIAL FIRST ISSUE (VERSION 1) OF "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES", NAMELY "LOVE ME DO" AND "P.S. I LOVE YOU". ALTHOUGH VEE-JAY APPEALED THE DECISION AGAINST THEM, THE COMPANY DECIDED THAT IT COULD ELIMINATE ITS IMMEDIATE PROBLEM WITH ITS "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" ALBUM BY DROPPING THE TWO SONGS FROM THE ALBUM. THESE SONGS WERE REPLACED WITH "ASK ME WHY" AND "PLEASE PLEASE ME". VEE-JAY PREPARED NEW COVERS FOR THE REVAMPED VERSION TWO ALBUM, RELEASED ONE MONTH AFTER VERSION ONE ON FEBRUARY 10, 1964, WHICH IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS THE "PLEASE, PLEASE ME" OR THE "ASK ME WHY" VERSION. THE FRONT COVER OF THE ALBUM IS THE SAME AS THE VERSION ONE COVER BUT WITHOUT "PRINTED IN U.S.A." IN THE LOWER LEFT OF THE FRONT COVER. THE BACK COVER IS IDENTICAL TO THE TITLES ON BACK VARIATION OF VERSION ONE, EXCEPT FOR THE SUBSTITUTION OF THE TITLES OF THE TWO SONGS THAT REPLACED "LOVE ME DO" AND "P.S. I LOVE YOU". The number of label and typesetting
variations for the mono Version Two records OF VEE-JAY'S "INTRODUCING THE
BEATLES" boggles the mind. THIS EXTREMELY RARE LABEL VARIATION BEING OFFERED
HERE has the black label with an outer rim colorband featuring THE "VJ" BRACKETS
logo. The typesetting variation of this record (VJ 1062(2).MR2C, SPIZER) has
left justified song titles and songwriters' credits in small type with medium
type "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" and "SIDE I" and "SIDE II" and small type "LONGPLAYING"
and "MICROGROOVE" on the label.
furthermore, This variation has a humorous typo in the songwriters' credit for the song track "Chains", which was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. The label credits the tune to "Coffin-King. "The record's trail off areas include the following hand etched markings: "URJ," "AI," the date 2-6-64 and the matrix number followed by "-1." The machine stamped Audio Matrix logo also appears. This thick vinyl pressing was manufactured by Southern Plastics. THE DISC IS A MAGNIFICENT AND SHIMMERING NEAR MINT THROUGHOUT ON BOTH THE
VINYL AND RARE LABELS. THE HIGH-GLOSS AND DEEP GLIMMERING GROOVES IS EVIDENCE OF
A RECORD THAT HAD PERHAPS ONLY ONE PLAY. IT'S AN ABSOLUTE GEM.
