DESCRIPTION
(ACTUAL IMAGES)The 1965 Christmas
season was a very special time for Beatles fans. While previous albums had been
collections of great performances, Rubber Soul is best appreciated when
considered as an entire record - one that set a new standard for the Beatles and
rock albums. George Martin's reflections indicate that this record's cohesive
and innovative nature was intentional. "It was the first album to present a new,
growing Beatles to the world. For the first time we began to think of albums as
art on their own, as complete entities."
Capitol had complete confidence that
THE "Rubber Soul" ALBUM would be a tremendous seller
and had prepared a promotional poster,
featuring a brown and white enlargement of the front album cover. The words "THE
BEATLES" is in red, while the tease "12 BRAND NEW SONGS" is in brown print. In
red print once again is "Never Before Available in the U.S.A". The Capitol Logo
is in brown print. To "Capitolize" on the Christmas holiday spirit, Capitol's
in-store poster told consumers that the album was "GREAT FOR GIVING! OR JUST
GROOVY LISTENING!".
