"SONGS, PICTURES AND STORIES OF THE FABULOUS BEATLES"
VEE-JAY VJLPS-1092, STEREO ¾ GATEFOLD COVER RELEASED: 10/12/64 ACCOMPANIED BY
INSANELY-RARE TRUE
STEREO PRINTED LABELS HAVING THE "VJLPS" PREFIX FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF PERRY COX.
CONDITION: NM / NM
THE 'SONGS PICTURES AND STORIES OF THE FABULOUS BEATLES" ALBUM IS A FANCY RE-PACKAGING OF THE SECOND VERSION OF "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES", AND AS EXPECTED WITH ALL VEE-JAY RECORDS, A STEREO PRESSING OF THIS LP IN THIS CONDITION IS A GREAT FIND. THE SCARCITY OF THE STEREO VERSION OF THIS RECORD IS NOT SURPRISING CONSIDERING THAT LESS THAN 2% OF THE ALBUMS SOLD (7,375) WERE STEREO. THE JACKET HAS A GATEFOLD COVER WHOSE FLAP IS TWO-THIRDS OF THE FULL JACKET'S SIZE. THE BACK COVER LEAVES NO DOUBT THAT VEE-JAY WAS MARKETING THIS RECORD FOR YOUNG GIRLS. BELOW RINGO'S COLOR-TINTED PICTURE IS THE PHRASE "RINGO LOVES" AND A BLUE DASH-BORDERED HEART CONTAINING THE PHRASE "PICTURE HERE". SIMILAR PICTURES, LANGUAGE AND HEARTS APPEAR FOR THE OTHER BEATLES. THE GORGEOUS NEAR MINT COVER OFFERED HERE, WHICH REMAINS IN ITS ORIGINAL 'SEARS ROEBUCK AND CO.' IN-STORE BAGGY WRAP, IS NOT THE STANDARD STEREO COVER ISSUED WITH THIS RELEASE (WITH THE WORD "STEREO" IN BLUE AT THE TOP OF THE COVER). AS WAS THE CASE WITH THE "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" LP, VEE-JAY HAD THE FACTORIES IMPROVISE STEREO COVERS WHEN ONLY MONO COVERS WERE AVAILABLE. THIS IS THE ULTRA-RARE VERSION, WHICH IS THE MONO COVER MODIFIED WITH A 2" X ½" RED RECTANGULAR STICKER (VJ1092.SC3, SPIZER) CONTAINING THE WORD "STEREO" IN BLACK AFFIXED DIRECTLY ONTO THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF THE FRONT GATEFOLD FLAP. THE STICKER, WHICH HAS REMAINED UN-TOUCHED BENEATH THE SEARS BAGGY WRAP, IS SIMPLY PERFECT AND GRADED MINT MINUS. THESE STEREO STICKER VERSIONS ARE MUCH RARER THAN THE NORMAL STEREO COVER (SPIZER, PAGE 161, VJ BOOK). WITH JUST A COUPLE OF SMALL TEARS TO THE BAGGY, THE COVER IN THOSE THREE AREAS ARE UNAFFECTED. THE ORIGINAL, SMALL $2.98 WHITE 'SEARS ROEBUCK AND CO." PRICE STICKER REMAINS ON THE BACK COVER WRAP. THE ABSOLUTE AND VITAL HIGHLIGHT FACTOR OF THIS PACKAGE IS THIS ACCOMPANYING "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" STEREO RECORD. IT IS THE INSANELY-RARE COLORBAND AND BRACKETS VARIATION (VJ1062(2).SR2AB(i), SPIZER), WITH "STEREO" PRINT AT THE 3 O'CLOCK POSITION, YET FEATURING THE TRUE STEREO PRINTED LABELS EVIDENT BY THE "VJLPS" CATALOG NUMBER PREFIXES AT THE 9 O'CLOCK POSITION PRINTED ON THEM. THE MAJORITY OF VARIANTS OF THE VEE-JAY STEREO DISC PRESSINGS WERE SIMPLY MONO "VJLP" PREFIX CATALOG NUMBER LABELS, WITH JUST "STEREO" ADDED TO THE LABELS. THESE BRACKETS LABELS RARELY SURFACE AND ONLY A HANDFUL ARE KNOWN TO EXIST. BOTH THE VINYL AND LABELS ARE A STUNNING, SHIMMERING NEAR MINT. THE "MR" LOGO STAMPER APPEARS ON BOTH SIDES IN THE RUN-OUT, INDICATING THIS RECORD WAS PRESSED BY MONARCH.
TAKE NOTE OF ANOTHER RARITY FACTOR: THERE IS A
FACTORY PRINTED WHITE DOT PRECEDING THE FIRST TRACK OF THIS MARVELOUS SET INCLUDES THE VEE-JAY RECORDS "AD BACK" INNER DUST SLEEVE IN NEAR MINT CONDITION AS WELL.
THIS MAGNIFICENT VEE-JAY ALBUM RARITY EMANATES
FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF PERRY COX, PROMINENT BEATLES U.S. RECORDS EXPERT AND AUTHOR OF "THE BEATLES RECORD PRICE
GUIDE" SERIES OF BOOKS - AND WHOSE LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY ACCOMPANIES THE
PACKAGE.
